Facebook | QUESTION OF THE DAY/ ANSWERED

"So just found out New Year's midnight church in black communities,
the Watch Night Service, dates back to December 31, 1862, aka 'Freedom's
Eve' where Blacks came together in churches across the nation, awaiting
news that the Emancipation Proclamation actually had become law.
January 1, 1863 slaves in the Confederate States were declared legally free.
It's been 145 years since that first Freedom's Eve"
